Founded 1950,SUMS is one of the oldest and largest universities in iran. The university is the provincial arm of the nation- wide ministerial program on integration medical education and services.

Currently SUMS has more than 600 faculties and 5000 students studying in 83 health- related fields including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy ,Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, Rehabilitation and Health Administration. The University also offers graduate studies in basic medical sciences as well Nursing,Public Health and pharmacy. It also offers comprehensive residency and fellowship programs in Clinical Medicine and Dentistry. SUMS has been ranked first among the countrys universities of medical sciences to publish scientific papers per academic faculty for the last several years. The University also runs a comprehensive service programs covering the prevention and treatment of diseases.
